Den Haag

Den Haag (The Hague) – even though Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, Den Haag is the official seat of the Dutch government and home to Netherlands’ monarch, parliament and supreme court. The Hague (located approx. 66 km., or one hour away from Amsterdam; and only 27.1 km., or 30 minutes from Rotterdam), is also where foreign national embassies are located, while Amsterdam is typically home to those countries’ corresponding, smaller consular offices.

The Hague has made the news in recent years, since it’s where the International Court of Justice is located (which has tried various defendants accused of international war crimes, such as those from Serbia and certain African countries like Liberia).
